American Home Shield is our Top Race Fundraiser!
American Home Shield: Leading the way with $18,500 for Race for the Cure in 2011
American Home Shield started its two-month breast cancer research campaign four years ago at the local contact center and has raised more than $50,000 since 2008. Along with the annual balloon launch, associates bring their creativity and energy to the table when outlining their annual campaigns, with some of the most popular fundraisers including opportunities to buy tickets for jeans days, selling frozen treats, candy bars, and other snacks, bake sales and raffle drawings.
This year, associates from both the Memphis service center and corporate office joined forces to raise funds for the Memphis-MidSouth Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®. With a little friendly competition and lots of creativity, teams from both locations got busy raising money for the ultimate bragging rights – to be the team that raises the most money. The competition was very close this year with the service center raising just over $8,000 and the corporate office raising a little over $10,000. Despite the difference in fundraising results, both of the Memphis locations can celebrate and be proud of one title they earned together: the Mid-South Top Corporate Fundraising Team for 2011!
"The campaign is something our associates look forward to every year," said Jennifer Presley, telesales operations manager of the local call center for American Home Shield, which employs more than 500 associates in Memphis and 1,600 nationwide. "It brings a feeling of comfort that we are truly helping a cause that is much greater than ourselves, and it's a visual reminder of the difference these donations make in the community."
"In
our business, we help homeowners in their time of need. While there's no
comparison between the breakdown of a home system and the devastating news of a
cancer diagnosis, our associates absolutely understand how important it is to
have a resource to turn to that can provide helpful and reliable guidance when
a crisis hits," said Dave Crawford, president and CEO of American Home
Shield. "We're proud of the work our team does with the Susan G. Komen for
the Cure. It's personal to us, and we're proud to join them in the fight
against this terrible disease."

Wolves “Pink Out” for a Cause
by: Rachel Smith (Rossville Christian Academy Student)
Rossville Christian Academy
went pink during the month of October for breast cancer awareness! To help
raise money for Susan G. Komen, the entire school rallied together for a cause
close to everyone’s heart. On the night of the pink games, October 6th and 7th, players dressed out in
pink socks, shoelaces, shirts, arm bands, tape, and eye-pink to demonstrate
their support. The RCA cheerleaders wore pink and threw pink footballs to the
crowd after every touchdown. Even the elementary cheerleaders were able to get
involved by selling pink pom-poms! Students showed their support by wearing pink
designed shirts with all of the player’s, cheerleader’s, coach’s, and manager’s
signatures. The football moms had to band together to create the best edible
fund raiser! During the game, pink baked goods were sold. Everything you could
possible think of was sold, even pink popcorn! During the games, some of our
own breast cancer survivors were present to be honored and presented with
flowers.
All the events were made possible by Rossville’s football booster club. Kim Rankhorn, president of the booster club, organized the event. Everything from ordering the football attire to designing the pink t-shirts was accomplished by Mrs. Rankhorn. Everyone was able to get involved and help. When asked how she thought the pink game affected the students, Kim Rankhorn replied, “It was so amazing to see everyone bond together and support such a great cause, and I must say real wolves do wear pink!” Head coach Johnny Allen said, “It was awesome to see everyone participate!”
As well as the game and fund raising, RCA participated in the Race for the Cure. Faculty members and students formed a team and walked or ran in support of breast cancer awareness. RCA’s goal for the month of October was to raise $3,000 to donate . On November 12th, to kick off the basketball season, Meet the Wolves was held. The basketball booster club held a silent auction, and donated to help the cause. The total amount raised for Susan G. Komen was $5,105. Rossville Christian Academy’s accomplishment proves that if everyone works together, great things can be achieved.
